Mental Health over Image: Trishala Dutt Urges Followers to Protect Their Peace
Trishala Dutt, a psychotherapist and daughter of Sanjay Dutt, highlighted the importance of setting boundaries in toxic family environments through a powerful Instagram story. She emphasized prioritizing mental health over maintaining a family's public image.
Sanjay Dutt’s daughter recently shared a post on her Instagram story that sheds light on a highly relevant topic — toxic family environments.
Trishala, who is a psychotherapist by profession, had just celebrated her birthday, and her father, Sanjay Dutt, also wished her on the occasion.
In her note, Trishala wrote: “Not everyone who shares your blood deserves a place in your life. Sometimes, the most draining, invalidating, and dismissive people we know carry the title 'family.' You're allowed to protect your peace. You're allowed to go low-contact or no contact. You're allowed to choose your mental health over preserving the family image.”
She continued:
“Because 'family' is not a free pass to mistreat, manipulate, or guilt-trip you. You DO NOT owe continued access to anyone who keeps hurting you — even if they raised you. When a parent cares more about how the family appears to the world than how it actually feels to live in it, that's a problem.”
She has highlighted an issue that has always existed and continues to affect people today — toxic family environments. Such environments can significantly impact a person's mental health.
It is, therefore, essential to set emotional and physical boundaries to protect our peace of mind. As Trishala rightly states, we are allowed to prioritize our mental well-being over maintaining the family image and outward appearances.
Being a psychotherapist, Trishala often shares positive and insightful content, and this post is another example of her commitment to promoting a healthy mental outlook.
Breaking free from toxic family dynamics doesn’t mean abandoning your family—it means choosing yourself. This is about rewriting your path and choosing a life grounded in genuine connection, self-respect, and emotional safety.
