MHA Asks States to Conduct Mock Drill Amid Indo-Pak Terror

MHA has ordered the states and around 244 districts to perform a mock drill amid the tension between India and Pakistan. The decision came into force after a high-level meeting chaired by PM Narendra Modi, during which he advised citizens to be prepared for threats and emerging challenges. The order reads that the mock drill will be conducted across states on May 7th, as India is approaching a stressful and complex threat.

The high-level meeting consisted of the detailed strategy of the retaliation method against the Pahalgam attack, which killed close to 26 people. Hours after Pakistan tested two of its most lethal weapons, the cabinet discussed this and initiated a meeting, “Exercise INDUS,” amid rising tensions with India. Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the successful test launch “made it clear that Pakistan's defence is in strong hands.”

In a letter to the Directorate General of Fire Services, the home guards stated that "In the current geopolitical scenario, new and complex threats/challenges have emerged; hence, it would be prudent that optimum civil defence preparedness in the states/UTs is maintained at all times."

The mock drills will be conducted to assess the effectiveness of the air raid sirens and how effectively they are functioning. It will also assess the effectiveness of the radio communication with the Air Force to assess the preparedness of the control rooms. Moreover, training for civilians will also be provided to stay proactive and help in situations such as war. Checking of blackout measures will also be conducted to ensure a safer practice.

“The conduct of the exercise is planned up to the village level. This exercise aims to assess and enhance the readiness of civil defence mechanisms across all states and Union territories.”The Home Ministry has ordered the involvement of the Police, District collectors, Home guards, and officials from the National Cadet Corps.

The Pahalgam attack is currently the most heinous act committed by the Pakistani Militants. As per sources, more than 25 people were killed in the brutal killings. People of India are seeking direct revenge; however, India plans to work on an even bigger target. A few days ago, addressing a press conference, PM Narendra Modi claimed to finish “terrorism once and for all.”

The mock drill will be conducted in real-life situations, and all the officials will be prepared for the emerging threats and challenges. The scene from the 1971 war is emerging for some, where India had advised on contingency plans. India used blackout techniques, which helped it stay safe.
