Miss Universe 2025 in Turmoil After MGI President Confronts Miss Mexico
Tensions flared at Miss Universe 2025 in Bangkok after MGI president Nawat Itsaragrisil publicly humiliated Miss Mexico, Fátima Bosch, prompting global backlash and solidarity among contestants.
The atmosphere was tense at the pre-event of Miss Universe 2025 in Bangkok, Thailand, when an unexpected drama unfolded.
During the event preparations, Miss Grand International (MGI) president Nawat Itsaragrisil spoke disrespectfully to and humiliated Miss Mexico, Fátima Bosch, on a public platform.
Nawat reprimanded Miss Mexico for missing a sponsorship shoot to attend a filming session for Telemundo. Reportedly, he called the contestant “dumb” for not posting any promotional content about Thailand.
During their interaction, he even called security to escort her out. As Miss Mexico rose and began exiting the room, several other contestants followed, leaving the venue in solidarity with their fellow contestant.
All the contestants appeared tense upon witnessing the unprofessional treatment meted out to Miss Mexico.
Following this, Nawat called everyone back—except Miss Mexico.
“Stop. Stop! Sit down. If anyone wants to continue the contest, sit down,” he said.
Taking to TikTok, Fatima criticized the MGI president’s behaviour:
“What your director just did is not respectful. He called me dumb because he has problems with the organization. That’s not fair because I do everything OK. I don’t mess with anyone. I try to be kind. The world needs to see this because we are empowered women, and this is a platform for our voice. No one can shut our voice.”
Many came forward in support of Miss Mexico. Miss Universe 2024, Victoria Kjær Theilvig of Denmark, posted: “Standing up for yourself is not always easy, but it’s one of the most important acts of self-respect and strength. Enough is enough — our voices will be heard loud and clear.”
Miss Universe Bonaire 2025, Nicole Peiliker-Visser, attempted to calm the situation: “We can fix this. We can bring them back. We’re having such a great time in Thailand.”
The Miss Universe Organization (MUO) confirmed that it will look into the matter and will send a high-level delegation, led by CEO Mario Búcaro, to Thailand “to ensure a secure and professional environment for all delegates and reaffirm MUO’s commitment to transparency and unity.”
The MUO has also taken action against Nawat by imposing restrictions on him. He has since apologized for his actions, saying: “If anyone feels bad, uncomfortable, or affected, I apologize to everyone. I especially apologize to the girls who were present — around 75 of them.”
Nawat added that CEO Mario Búcaro “is very kind and will fly in tomorrow since I need someone fully authorized to work with me. That will make things easier and keep us aligned.”
The pageant schedule remains unchanged.
