Mohanlal Honoured with Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2023
Mohanlal has been conferred with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award for his immense contribution to Indian cinema. The actor expressed gratitude to all those who have supported him throughout his 48-year career.
Malayalam actor Mohanlal has been honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, which will be presented in New Delhi. The veteran actor has dedicated the award to Malayalam cinema.
“I speak with a deep sense of humility and gratitude. This is a proud moment, and I cannot enjoy this alone. I’m sharing it with everyone: the audience, the people I have worked with in the past, the ones I am working with in the present, and those I will work with in the future,” Mohanlal said.
“I am not a person who dreams a lot. If you were to ask me about my social commitment, I would say that it is to attempt to play the roles I am given in the best possible manner. I will give it my best try. But you cannot make a movie alone; it is the work of many people. I pray that we get to make good movies and that good movies are made in the Malayalam industry. I just want to be a part of that. That is my dream,” explained the actor.
“Cinema has only one language. I am just part of the industry; there is no pinnacle to it. ‘Zenith’ is just a word. So, I don’t consider myself to have reached the pinnacle of anything with an award,” he added.
The actor, who arrived in Kochi on September 21, told media persons that the moment was special and beautiful not only for him but also for the entire film industry.
“Cinema is a vicious circle. It is magic. We cannot predict anything about it. When two movies succeed, it elevates you; when they fail, it’s the opposite. Staying in such an industry for 48 years is like being in a circus. I have had the privilege of having many supportive people along with me in that journey,” he said.
Many celebrities congratulated the actor on achieving this huge milestone. Besides Malayalam films, Mohanlal has acted in Telugu, Kannada, Tamil, and Hindi cinema. He has worked in more than 400 films in a career spanning four decades. He is considered one of the most versatile actors who can slip into any role effortlessly. His contemporaries have often praised him for his immense contribution to Indian cinema.
On Saturday (September 20, 2025), the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting announced that the actor would be conferred with the country’s highest cinema honour, the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2023. The award will be presented at the 71st National Film Awards ceremony on September 23.
