My Competition Is against My Over-critical Self Rather Than Anybody Else, Says Kajol

Popular actress Kajol is all set to mesmerise audiences with her performance in upcoming OTT web series ‘The Trial: Pyaar Kanoon and Dokha.’

She is playing a retired lawyer named Noyonika Sen Gupta who is forced to return to work and face the “toughest trial” of her life. 

Kajol’s husband deceives and betrays her by accepting bribes and sexual favours however she decides to fight his case and stands by him. 

Kajol had shared the trailer of the web series on her social media and wrote, “Trials don't only happen in the courtroom—they are also present in real life. Watch Noyonika Sen Gupta (Kajol) face the toughest trial of her life – Hotstar Special 'The Trial - Pyaar Kaanoon Dhokha', streaming from 14th July only on Disney+ Hotstar.”

The series is adapted from the American series titled ‘The Good Wife.’ 

Besides Kajol the show features  Jisshu U Sengupta, Alyy Khan, Kubbra Sait and Sheeba Chadha. It will stream on OTT platform Disney Hotstar on 14 July. 

While in conversation with NDTV’S Arun Singh, Kajol was asked if she was nervous about her upcoming OTT series. She said, “I was not nervous or excited about my first film [Bekhudi] either. For me, it has always been about what I have been able to deliver. I am always competing with myself. There is nothing else. Whenever I see myself on screen, I think I could have done this better or portrayed it in a different way. Or maybe, I could have done this shot better. So my competition is against my over-critical self rather than anybody else.” 

She also shared her thoughts on how OTT platforms are different from  films. Kajol said, “The best thing is that you have a lot of scope to keep things going till the end. In case of a movie, you only get 2 hours to narrate everything. In a web series, you have time to establish the storyline and show a number of possibilities.”

Audiences would be curious to witness Kajol’s magical performance after eons. Over the years, fans have been mesmerised by her natural and versatile performances in movies like ‘Baazigar’, ‘Karan Arjun’ and super blockbuster ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge.’ She took up a negative role in Gupt: The Hidden Truth where she played an obsessive lover who finally turns into a psychopath killer. Her unconventional looks and choice of roles that broke stereotypical norms definitely worked in her favour in the Indian Film Industry.
