Nearly 300 people have fallen sick and one man passed away in the town of Eluru in Andhra Pradesh on Saturday due to a mysterious disease.

The patients who complained of dizziness, vomiting, seizures, and severe headache were admitted to the Eluru government hospital. The 45-year-old man who has been identified as Sridhar from Vidyanagar area in Eluru town passed away on Sunday evening due to this disease. He was admitted to the local hospital in the morning with symptoms of epilepsy and giddiness. 

Some of the patients were shifted to Vijayawada government hospital for better treatment. According to health officials, the number of people who have been affected has crossed 285. 117 patients have been discharged while 30 patients are ready to get discharged. 

The cause of this mysterious disease hasn’t been ascertained yet. Health authorities have carried out blood tests and CT scans of the affected patients. Culture tests could point towards the probable cause of the disease.

Scientists from Hyderabad’s National Institute of Nutrition and Indian Institute of Chemical Technology would arrive in Eluru on Monday to investigate the cause of the disease. 

The affected patients have been tested negative for COVID-19.  Deputy Chief Minister Alla Kali Krishna Srinivas said that a door to door survey would be conducted to monitor the condition of the local people.
