Veteran actress and politician Nafisa Ali loves to go back in time and savour fond of memories of yesteryears. Her Insta profile is proof of that. She shared an old snap of hers when she was just 25. Captioning the snap she wrote, “Found a memory...This was taken when I was 25 and I am 63 now.”

Adorning delicate jewellery and draped in a blue sari, Nafia looks refreshing and young.

The senior actress has many feathers in her hat! She was an ace swimmer, holding the national swimming champion position from 1972 to 1974. She then went on to win the Femina Miss India title in 1976. 

In the same year, she represented India in the Miss International bagging the second runner up position. 

Here’s another black and white snapshot of hers clicked by her father when she had just won Miss International. She had returned from Tokyo.

Describing the click she wrote, “I loved photography and still do. This was taken when I was 19 by my Dad after I returned from Tokyo with my new camera. I was the 2nd runner up in Miss International as I was ‘Miss India 1976.’”

The senior actress admitted that she loves the challenges of sport and the thrill of winning since childhood. She’s collected numerous trophies for swimming right from school days and some from state and national championships.

She captioned the pic: “Some of my prizes from National Swimming competition, State championship, and school swimming and also from athletes in school and inter-school championships. I guess I just loved winning. I loved the challenges of sport. (I was 16 here). 

The actress who hails from Kolkata has acted in movies like Junoon with Shashi Kapoor(1978), Major Saab with Amitabh Bachchan, Life in a Metro, Bewafaa, Lahore, and so on. She’s a member of the Indian National Congress.

A cancer survivor, she was diagnosed with peritoneal and ovarian cancer in November 2018.  It was hard for her to accept that she had this disease however she had to come to terms with her situation. Ultimately the strong woman beat cancer with a lot of self-determination, will power, and the love and support of her family. She believes that miracles do happen; beating cancer is within our own power and the environment we are living in. Kudos to this lady with an amazing soul and a joyful spirit…
