Neelam Kothari Takes on Trollers Who Trolled ‘The Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives’ Series on Netflix

After a long hiatus from the Indian Film Industry, the charming and delightful Neelam Kothari made a comeback with ‘The Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives’ and ‘Made in Heaven’ season 2.

Known for her elegance and finesse, it feels good to see the heroine of yesteryears back on the screen. Neelam was not the “typical” Indian heroine. She was westernized, had an American-British accent and her unconventional appearance was “baby-like.” She spent her childhood in Hong Kong.

Despite this, she made a comfortable place for herself in Bollywood. Her first film ‘Jawani’ was opposite Tina Munim’s nephew Karan Shah where she got noticed by moviemakers even though the film didn’t do commercially well.

Thereafter she was paired opposite Govinda in Love 86, Ilzaam, Khudgarz, and so on. This pair was an instant hit and the masses loved the chemistry between them.

The actress took a temporary break from films in 2001 and began devoting time to her second passion Jewellery Designing. She started on her own under the name ‘Neelam Jewels.’ She then launched her jewellery store in Mumbai on 25 August 2011 under the name Neelam Kothari Fine Jewels.

With husband Samir Soni and daughter

After many years Neelam has been nervous about making a comeback in films although her husband Sameer Soni gave her the much-needed push.

Post her successful act in ‘The Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Lives’ that did pretty well in the first two seasons despite garnering criticism and trolls, Neelam will now star in Zoya Akhtar’s ‘Made in Heaven’ season 2 alongside her husband Sameer Soni and Maheep’s husband Sanjay Kapoor.

She told Pinkvilla, “Luckily Samir was with me on that day of the shoot and he was calming me down. I was grateful he was there with me.”

In contrast to working in ‘The Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives’, Neelam was more nervous to face the camera on the sets of  Made in Heaven 2.

"I was so nervous going back on set for Made In Heaven 2. For Fabulous Lives, I wasn't nervous at all, I was just playing myself. But here, it was like 'OMG I'm actually back in front of the camera'," she said.

The Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives is an Indian reality TV series on Netflix that follows the personal lives, professional lives, and camaraderie of four fun-loving women belonging to Bollywood.

These women are Neelam Kothari,  Maheep Kapoor, Bhavna Pandey, and Seema Kiran Sajdeh (formerly known as Seema Khan), wives of actors Samir Soni, Sanjay Kapoor, Chunky Pandey, and Sohail Khan respectively.

The series has received mixed reviews. It received flak from certain Twitter users as they called it scripted. According to the members of this reality show, the series is not scripted.  To this Neelam expressed to Pinkvilla: “All I can say is that we have attempted something, and it has been successful. We put ourselves out there and kudos to us. Also, if you make a movie or a serial, you will have lovers and you will have haters. The same concept applies to this show as well. Some will love it, some will hate it.”

Many observers believe that women from Bollywood have it good all the way. This show is created to break that myth. According to the wives, this series humanizes them and exposes them in a different light.

And If rumours are to be believed Netflix has already green-lighted the third season as well. Kudos to Neelam Kothari Soni and her Bollywood wives' gang!
