Nobel Peace Prize for Donald Trump?

US President Donald Trump stressed that he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize for his work on North Korea and Syria. As he claims that Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, had nominated him for Nobel Peace Prize for initiating dialogue with North Korea. At the same time, he also raised a question on Former President Barack Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize, as he hopes he would be similarly honored.

President Donald Trump has said, “Prime Minister Shinzo Abe gave me the most beautiful copy of a letter that he sent to the people who give out a thing called the Nobel Prize”. During a news conference, when he was asked about how he got to know about the development, President Trump said about Abe “He said, ‘I have nominated you, respectfully, on behalf of Japan. I am asking them to give you the Nobel Peace Prize.”

The President of South Korea, Moon Jae-in, who has also credited President Trump with starting negotiations with reclusive North Korea, has endorsed President Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize as well. Though Japan’s Foreign Ministry couldn’t comment on the details of the talks that took place between US President Trump and Prime Minister Abe.

Sharing his experience of how he started talks with North Korean leader Kim, Trump said it was filled with “fire and fury,” but now they have established a good relationship. Trump also praised himself for establishing a good relationship with Kim saying, “I like him a lot and he likes me a lot”.

Former US President Barrack Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in the year 2009, during the first year in office. He was awarded the prestigious prize for laying out the country’s commitment to “seek the peace and security of a world without nuclear weapons.”

President Donald Trump has criticized the award committee for awarding the prize to Obama saying he was there “for about 15 seconds” before he was awarded the prize. Trump continued, “I’ll probably never get it, but that’s OK, They gave it to Obama. He didn’t even know what he got it for”.

US President Donald Trump will meet North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in Hanoi, by the end of this month February 27-28 for a second summit on the nuclear issue. Though President Trump believes their first meeting in Singapore was a great success, but critics are of the view that the summit, delivered no progress on denuclearisation.
