She has opened up about her relationship with her husband Barack Obama with the intention of enlightening others on what kept her marriage going and kicking. She admitted that it takes a “lot of hard work” to be in long term relationships and it is not easy.
She talked about her marital ups and downs with American host Conan O’Brien. “There were times that I wanted to push Barack out of the window. And I say that because it’s like, you’ve got to know the feelings will be intense. But that doesn’t mean you quit”, she revealed. And these periods can last for years according to Michelle.
“Young couples, they face these challenges and they’re ready to give up because they think they’re broken,” she explained.
Another key point she puts across is that if she would have walked out of her marriage during tough times, then she would have also missed the beauty of the good times that there was in it.
Michelle Obama’s message comes at a crucial time when cases of domestic violence have increased rapidly due to the ongoing pandemic. Unlike before, working couples are spending a lot of time together at home and as a result they are experiencing different situations where “differences and conflicts” arise. Some are able to handle it with ease whereas others are struggling.
Though there is the dread of the disease, the pandemic has also coerced us to reflect upon the quality of our relationships with our loved ones. A great time to resolve unsettled matters!
Michelle’s message may come as a ray of hope to those who are on the verge of a break up. It may influence couples to pause, reflect and not take that hasty decision to break an otherwise beautiful relationship.
Michelle said, “It also takes a lot of work; a lot of honesty with ourselves and our partners. That’s one thing I’ve learned.”
The former Flotus has a message for youngsters who are currently dating. She explained that you have to give yourself a lot of time to see the person in an “array of situations” and then you have to be honest about being with them. Date them seriously before making a commitment.
