It may come as a surprise to many that the congress leader Rahul Gandhi is a pet lover too.

He adopted a very cute Jack Russell Terrier puppy named ‘Noorie’ and gifted it to his mother Mrs. Sonia Gandhi.

Rahul Gandhi got the little terrier from Goa in August from a kennel in North Goa's Mapusa.

He shared the video on the occasion of World Animal Day titled ‘A little surprise for Ma.”

“I would like you all to meet the newest and the cutest member of our family - our li'l pup, Noorie. She flew in from Goa straight into our arms and has become the light of our lives. Unconditional love and uncompromising loyalty - there is so much this beautiful animal can teach us! We must pledge to protect and share our love with all living beings. #WorldAnimalDay”, Rahul shared these thoughtful words.

The video initially shows serene scenes of Goa! It reads, “I made a quick visit to Goa to get Ma a new friend.” Later he is introduced to two Jack Russel Terriers by the kennel owners and he’s seen being playful with them.

The audience loved this video in which you can see how Rahul surprises his mom with the pet. Sonia Gandhi who is initially hesitant to step out of the house and meet the pup, takes an instant liking to the terrier.

User @jkchahal20 commented on the video: “The one who loves animals can never be far from humane values!! Stay blessed!!”

@mishti45 “It's such a pleasure watching every video of yours Rahul. Every individual who watches them feels a connect with you and looks at you with hope. That you'll change their lives and make it better. Our future Prime Minister!”

World Animal Day is celebrated on October 4 which is also the feast day of Francis of Assisi; the patron saint of animals. This year’s theme was: “Great or small, love them all.”
