OpenAI Supercharges ChatGPT with Enhanced Canvas And Project Features

OpenAI has rolled out significant upgrades to its ChatGPT platform, enhancing both the Canvas and Projects features. These updates aim to deliver a more agile, seamless, and productive experience for users working on diverse tasks, from coding to content creation and research.

The Canvas tool, first introduced as a preview in October 2024 and made widely available in December 2024, is a flexible editing space within ChatGPT. It enables users to format, revise, and customize content directly within an intuitive sandbox interface. Now, OpenAI has added the ability to download Canvas content in multiple file formats, including PDF, Microsoft Word (.docx), and Markdown (.md). This makes it easier to archive, share, or present the generated material across platforms.

For coders, this enhancement goes a step further. When writing code within Canvas, users can now export code in native file types such as .py for Python, .js for JavaScript, and .sql for SQL. Meanwhile, OpenAI has also expanded the Projects Feature, which allows users to organize conversations into folders where the AI retains memory, rules, and uploaded files. Among the new functionalities, Projects now includes deep research mode, allowing ChatGPT to perform multi-step inquiries using public web sources, ideal for users exploring complex topics. Moreover, voice mode has been integrated into Projects, offering a hands-free, conversational experience for those on the go.

Another user-centric enhancement is the ability to generate shareable URLs for specific chat folders, enabling collaboration and smoother knowledge sharing.
