Operation Sindoor: Rising Tensions as India Strikes Terror Camps, Pakistan Retaliates

New Delhi: Pakistan is reportedly attempting to endanger the United Nations installation in Jammu and Kashmir, shortly after Indian military forces carried out coordinated strikes on terror hubs in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (POK), according to defence insiders. A shell launched by the Pakistani Army barely missed a UN field station in Poonch—roughly kilometers from Srinagar—and landed just outside its premises.
The United Nations has not yet released any formal remarks regarding the incident. Earlier today, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed deep unease about the increasing hostility between India and Pakistan, warning that the globe “cannot afford a confrontation” between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.
“The Secretary-General is very concerned about the Indian military operations across the Line of Control and the international border. He calls for maximum military restraint from both countries,” said Stephane Dujarric, spokesperson for the UN chief.
In this strategic offensive–the first tri-service mission since 1971—India carried out exacting strikes on nine terror launch pads affiliated with notorious groups such as Hizbul Mujahideen, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Jaish-e-Mohammad. The precision of the operation was described as surgical and aimed at dismantling extremist strongholds.
Following these air and ground strikes, Pakistan retaliated by firing across the Line of Control and the international Border, in blatant breach of the existing ceasefire agreement. The Indian Army, in turn, delivered what they termed an "appropriate" response. Reports say three civilians lost their lives due to the capricious and indiscriminate shelling from the Pakistani side.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, in a succinct post following Operation Sindoor, reiterated India’s firm stance against terrorism, stating: “The world must show zero tolerance for terrorism.”
The recent chain of events has galvanized global attention, with the international community now urging both nations to exercise restraint. Yet, concerns continue to mount over the volatile atmosphere and the potential for escalation.
Despite the maelstrom along the border and ongoing diplomatic tensions, India maintains that its military actions were defensive and aimed solely at neutralizing terror threats. Observers fear that the situation could spiral into a broader imbroglio without immediate de-escalation, affecting peace in the South Asian region.
