Oscars Are Round the Corner, Here Are Some of the Prime Nominations

Movie buffs are bound to be glued to their television screens this Sunday, on February 24 to watch the 91st Academy Awards. It will be held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles. The big event is going to be televised live in more than 225 countries. Some of the top performers for the night would be Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson who will perform ‘I’ll Fight’ from ‘RBG.’ Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga will perform ‘Shallow’ from ‘A Star Is Born.’ Oscar nominee Bette Midler will perform on ‘The Place Where Lost Things Go’ from ‘Mary Poppins Returns.’

Who is the host of the Oscars?

Kevin Hart was supposed to host the Oscars however after his tweets laced with prejudice against homosexuals surfaced, he stepped down from his role. After the controversy he posted these lines on Twitter, “I have made the choice to step down from hosting this year's Oscar's....this is because I do not want to be a distraction on a night that should be celebrated by so many amazingly talented artists. I sincerely apologize to the LGBTQ community for my insensitive words from my past.”

The Oscars haven’t named a replacement yet and this would be the first time in 30 years that the Oscars ceremony would go without a host.

Presenters of the ceremony

Oscars 2019 producer Donna Gigliotti and director/co-producer Glenn Weiss announced the first round of presenters who are Awkwafina, Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, Tina Fey, Whoopi Goldberg, Brie Larson, Jennifer Lopez, Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph, Amandla Stenberg, Charlize Theron, Tessa Thompson, and Constance Wu.

The second round of presenters include Black Panther actor Chadwick Boseman, Game of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke, and “Can you ever forgive me “actress Melissa McCarthy. Other presenters are Elsie Fisher, Danai Gurira, Brian Tyree Henry, Michael B. Jordan, Michael Keaton, Helen Mirren, John Mulaney, Tyler Perry, Pharrell Williams, Krysten Ritter, Paul Rudd and Michelle Yeoh. The actors who received awards last year would also be presenting awards.

Nominees

The most highly nominated films turned out to be ‘Roma’ and the ‘The Favourite’ who have got 10 nominations each. ‘A Star Is Born’ and ‘Vice’ received eight nominations each. Next in line is ‘Black Panther’ which received 7 nominations each. Films that have been nominated for best picture are ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, ‘A Star Is Born’, ‘Black Panther’, ‘Blackkklansman’, ‘The Favourite’, ‘Green Book’, ‘Roma’ and ‘Vice.’
