The Insane and Weird Oscar Conspiracy Theories

The Oscars is round the bend and everyone is keen to know the winners of the different categories. But, winning an award does not always mean everything is hunky dory. There are many conspiracy theories that an Oscar can be a bearer of many weird things. It can lead to obscurity or bad movies. It can also ruin one’s personal life.

The Oscar sabotage

One of the latest theories is concerning Leonardo DiCaprio. The Oscars had been eluding him for a long time. Rumors were rife that he had jeopardized last year’s ceremony to take revenge. Last year, La La Land was wrongly announced as the Best picture. The envelopes were mixed which led many to believe that it was the work of Leonardo.  The golden statue was handed to the stars of La La Land  by veteran actors Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway.

In time an accountant from PricewaterhouseCoopers, who takes care of  the ballot-counting process, ran onstage to rectify the mistake. Warren Beatty had looked at the card and realized that the card was meant to announce the name of Emma Stone for La La Land. A few believe  that Leonardo DiCaprio, who presented Emma Stone with her Best Actress Oscar for La La Land, didn’t give her card when she won. But some viewers have had the wild feeling that  DiCaprio the show by handing the Best Actress card to  Beatty. This was done to take revenge

for having to wait a long time to get his Oscar.

Leonardo won an Oscar in 2016 for the movie - Revenant.

The Oscar curse

One might wonder, what is the Oscar curse? Well, if an actress wins the Oscar, she may be divorced or cheated upon by her husband or boyfriend. In 2009, Kate Winslet won an Oscar for The Reader and then she split from Sam Mendes, her husband. Sandra Bullock won an Oscar for The Blind Side in 2010 and even she split from her husband Jesse James. Mind you , this curse even applies to the Best Supporting Actress winner. Take the example of Bette Davis who won the Oscar for the Best Supporting Actress and split from her husband.

The Oscars lead to bad roles and obscurity

Let us go way back to 2002. Halle Berry became the first African-American to win the award the Best Actress in 2002 for Monster's Ball and in 2004, she won the  Golden Raspberry Award for the worst actress for The Catwoman. This proves that she took the wrong decision in selecting her roles and this came just a years after winning the Oscar. Same was the case with Mira Sorvino. She won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 1995 for Woody Allen’s  film Mighty Aphrodite. After this award, she failed to succeed in further films. She worked with Lisa Kudrow in a 1997 comedy , Romy and Michele's High School Reunion. This movie did not have an impact on the audience and slowly Mira faded into obscurity.

Are these just accidents or there is something sinister to it.
