Panic in Delhi Schools as Bomb Threat Emails Spark Swift Evacuations
Multiple schools and colleges in Delhi received email bomb threats, triggering evacuations and intensive security checks. Although earlier threats proved to be hoaxes, officials remain vigilant, urging calm while pursuing the perpetrators behind these fabricated alarms.
Several schools across the national capital were thrown into a state of commotion on Monday morning after receiving a bomb threat via email, officials reported.
According to the Delhi Police, Delhi Public School (DPS) Dwarka, Modern Convent School, and ShreeRam World School in Sector 10, Dwarka, were among the institutions targeted. The threatening message came through a suspicious email ID, prompting immediate action.
As a precautionary step, students, teachers, and staff were evacuated without delay. Soon after, the police, accompanied by bomb disposal squads and specialized teams, reached the campuses and conducted meticulous inspections of classrooms, corridors, playgrounds, and other facilities.
Though earlier incidents of bomb threats in the city had turned out to be hoaxes, officials are treating the present situation with greater gravitas, ensuring all protocols and countermeasures are followed strictly to prevent any oversight. Investigations are still ongoing to track the source of the email.
This is not the first time schools in Delhi have faced such threats. In July, a similar panic was created after Richmond Global School in Pashim Vihar, the Sovereign School in Rohini Sector 24, Modern International School in Dwarka Sector 19, and Heritage School in Rohini Sector 23 received bomb alerts.
Richmond Global School Principal, Moupali Mitra, recalled the experience, stating that they informed the Police Commissioner within minutes of receiving the email. “We are keeping an eye on every kind of message. We received the mail threat at 10:52 AM and mailed the Commissioner of Police at 10:58 AM. Immediately, the bomb squad and other teams arrived along with the Cyber department. We cross-checked every corner of the school, and it is safe. We are taking all necessary measures to ensure the safety of the children. Some anti-social people are spreading such rumours, and we all must stand against them. The school is functioning normally,” Mitra told ANI.
In addition to schools, higher education institutions have also been affected. On July 18, Delhi University’s IP College for Women, Hindu College, and Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) received bomb threats through email, sparking similar evacuations and checks.
While these threats have so far been fallacious, their recurrence is causing trepidation among parents and students. Security agencies are now intensifying their forensic scrutiny of digital communications to identify the perpetrators behind this unsettling trend. Authorities have urged citizens to remain calm but vigilant, stressing that spreading fabricated alarms only creates unnecessary panic and disrupts academic life.
