Parag Agarwal Becomes New CEO of Twitter as Jack Dorsey Steps Down

Parag Agarwal is the new CEO of Twitter after Jack Dorsey has stepped down from his role.

Before taking up his new role, Parag was the CTO in the company since 2017.

Agarwal graduated from IIT Mumbai.

Apparently Parag is well liked by Jack Dorsey and it’s believed that this is one of the factors that helped Parag bag the coveted position.

Describing the new CEO, Twitter stated, “Parag Agrawal joined Twitter in 2011 and has served as Chief Technology Officer (CTO) since October 2017. As CTO, he has been responsible for the Company's technical strategy, leading work to improve development velocity while advancing the state of Machine Learning across the company. Prior to being appointed CTO, Parag had risen to be Twitter's first Distinguished Engineer due to his work across revenue and consumer engineering, including his impact on the re-acceleration of audience growth in 2016 and 2017.”

Twitter has revealed that as CEO Parag will be given an annual compensation of $1 million as well as stock compensation worth $12.5 million.

Parag studied in Atomic Energy Central School. He completed his bachelors in engineering in computer science from IIT Mumbai.  After moving to America he completed his doctorate from Stanford University. His mother is a retired school teacher while his father holds a senior position in the atomic energy sector.

Dorsey said, “I've decided to leave Twitter because I believe the company is ready to move on from its founders. My trust in Parag as Twitter's CEO is deep. His work over the past 10 years has been transformational. I'm deeply grateful for his skill, heart, and soul. It's his time to lead.”

In return Parag thanked Jack Dorsey for his continued mentorship, friendship and partnership. He also thanked the entire Twitter team for their trust and support.
