British-Australian actress and singer Olivia Newton John passed away in her home in Southern California at the age of 73 surrounded by family and friends.

British-Australian actress and singer Olivia Newton John passed away in her home in Southern California at the age of 73 surrounded by family and friends. 

The actress was suffering from breast cancer. She was first diagnosed with cancer in the 90s after which she recovered. She then became an active advocate for the disease. 

The cancer resurfaced in 2013 however in May 2017 the disease had metastasised to her lower back. 

Her passing away was confirmed by her husband John Easterling on Facebook, “Dame Olivia Newton-John (73) passed away peacefully at her Ranch in Southern California this morning, surrounded by family and friends. We ask that everyone please respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time.”

“Olivia has been a symbol of triumphs and hope for over 30 years sharing her journey with breast cancer. Her healing inspiration and pioneering experience with plant medicine continues with the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund, dedicated to researching plant medicine and cancer. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made in her memory to the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund.”

The actress and singer had worked with several high-profiled artists in her musical journey. ‘’I honestly love you, Please Mr Please, Have You Ever Been Mellow, Hopelessly Devoted To You, Physical, Something Better To Do were some of her most memorable songs. 

The four time grammy award winner was well known for her performance in the musical film ‘Grease’ opposite John Travolta. The two of them gave their most iconic performance as Danny Zuko and Sandy Olsson.

The film featured two major hit duets with Travolta- ‘You’re The One That I Want’ and ‘Summer Nights.’

Despite not being a native of America, she is one of the best selling music artists from the second half of the 20th century to the present. Her success and popularity levels became a subject of debate among locals. Olivia Newton also strongly fought for animal and environmental causes. 

Actor John Travolta paid his condolences on social media. Both of them remained lifelong friends: “My dearest Olivia, you made all of our lives so much better. Your impact was incredible. I love you so much. We will see you down the road and we will all be together again. Yours from the first moment I saw you and forever!

Your Danny, your John!”

Olivia Newton John is survived by her husband John Easterling and daughter Chloe Lattanzi.
