President Joe Biden Welcomes a New Member to the White House

The White House has welcomed a new member into its family. Welcome ‘Commander’ who is a four legged German Shepherd pup!

On Monday President Joe Biden welcomed the new pup through a tweet and shared the good news with the public.

Sharing a picture of the adorable pup, President Joe Biden wrote, “Welcome to the White House, Commander.”

In the picture you can catch a glimpse of commander running while holding a ball in its mouth. Without a doubt, ‘Commander’ is a real delight to watch especially for all dog lovers.

‘Commander’ is a pure breed German Shepherd who was born in September. She is nearly four months old.

She was a gift to Joe Biden on his birthday by his brother James and sister-in-law Sara Biden.

Joe Biden turned 79 on November 20.

Commander is the third dog to join the Biden family. The previous two dogs were also German Shepherds which affirm that the Biden family has a close affinity for this special breed.

Biden’s previous dog ‘Champ’ unfortunately passed away at the age of 13.

‘Major’ who was adopted as a puppy in 2018 became the first rescue dog to go from a shelter to the White House. However, following two nipping incidents involving a Secret Service agent and a National Park, Major had to find a quieter place with family and friends.

“After consulting with dog trainers, animal behaviorists, and veterinarians, the First Family has decided to follow the experts' collective recommendation that it would be safest for Major to live in a quieter environment with family friends,” Michael LaRosa, press secretary for first lady Jill Biden, told NPR.

LaRosa also confirmed that a feline will join the White House family in the month of January.
