Prince Charles Celebrates His 70th birthday with Family and Friends

On Wednesday, Prince Charles celebrates his 70th birthday attending both public and private parties, but he spent much of his time with his close family, as photograph released by his office shows.

To mark his birthday, the heir to the British throne also attended a special tea party with 70 inspirational people who also turned 70 this year, before the private function hosted by the queen for close friends and family.

The Prince of Wales and Queen Elizabeth’s eldest son, Charles was born at Buckingham Palace on 14th November 1948, four years before his mother ascended to the throne, following the death of her father George VI.

Charles said about his now 92-year-old Queen mother in an interview for a BBC documentary recently, “When my mama succeeded and became queen and my grandfather died so young, aged 57, I ended up becoming heir to the throne aged four”,

As the heir to the crown, Charles is waiting longer than any of his predecessors to become the monarch and is going to be the oldest king in the lineage that dates back 1,000 years.

Prince Charles has kept himself busy with social issues and used his position to campaign on subjects including climate change, architecture and farming, often raising his serious concerns about the environment. But his critics have often accused him of interfering, as the British monarchs expected to stay out of politics according to Britain’s unwritten constitution.

Prince also has cleared this by saying that he would stop meddling in the campaigns, which he felt strongly about, when he said, “I do realise that it is a separate exercise being sovereign”.

The new birthday photographs show Prince Charles in the garden of his home, Clarence House along with his second wife Camilla, sons William and Harry, with their wives Kate and Meghan along with William and Kate’s children and his grandchildren George, Charlotte and Louis.

In the BBC film on Prince Charles aired last week, his son William said he hoped his hardworking father would spend more time with his grandchildren, “Now he’s reached his 70th year, it's a perfect time to consolidate a little bit as most families would do; you are worried about having them around, making sure their health's OK. He’s the fittest man I know but equally I want him to be fit so he’s 95 going on, so having more time with him at home would be lovely”. William also acknowledged that his father Prince Charles still believes that he had much to achieve in life.
