Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Take on British Tabloids
The Duchess of Sussex has also filed a lawsuit against the ‘Mail’ tabloid for publishing the letter she wrote to her father Thomas Markle. Undeniably, the British media has been critical of every act of Meghan Markle.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have taken on the British media in connection to the illegal interception of their voice mail messages. Prince Harry has sued both ‘Daily Mirror’ and ‘The Sun’ for this and also for their “ruthless campaign” against his wife- Meghan Markle over the years.
The Duchess of Sussex has also filed a lawsuit against the ‘Mail’ tabloid for publishing the letter she wrote to her father Thomas Markle. Undeniably, the British media has been critical of every act of Meghan Markle. Speaking on the same issue the former secretary of state Hillary Clinton said, “I do want to say that the way she’s been treated is inexplicable” and she also believes that Meghan Markle’s race is one of the reasons for this negativity.
Even Hillary Clinton’s daughter Chelsea Clinton has come forward in support of Meghan Markle. She believes that Meghan Markle has a strong voice which she continues to use to this day. Chelsea also shared these thought-provoking lines concerning Meghan’s powerful personality, “Anyone who has the temerity to break the mold of what has previously been established and expected often, unfortunately, receives criticism and bile that I don’t understand. We’ve seen this pattern repeatedly.” Chelsea Clinton said that she looks up to Meghan Markle and respects her a lot even though she hasn’t met her personally. She is one person who is persistent and is not willing to be bullied, said Chelsea.
Unlike ever before Prince Harry has also openly stood up for his wife. He said, “Though this action may not be the safe one, it is the right one. Because my deepest fear is history repeating itself. I’ve seen what happens when someone I love is commoditised to the point that they are no longer treated or seen as a real person.” He continued, “I lost my mother and now I watch my wife falling victim to the same powerful forces.” From these lines, it is clearly evident the coverage of Lady Diana’s personal life in tabloids has drastically affected his personal life. He said that “for too long” he has been silently witnessing Meghan’s suffering as a result of the harsh treatment hurled upon her on these tabloids.
The Duchess of Sussex’s powerful personality, her unbowing demeanor, her color, race, boldness, and her independence have all come under scrutiny since the time she became one with the royal family. Trollers on social media have exacerbated the issue by regularly posting nasty things about the Duchess. Some say that she is targeted the same way Lady Diana was targeted. Prince Harry believes in the same notion as he went on to say, “I lost my mother and now I watch my wife falling victim to the same powerful forces.”
It is therefore commendable and brave of both Meghan and Prince Harry to stand up against a powerful force like the British media who have infringed upon Prince Harry’s privacy and spread negativity. The Royal family will not remain mute spectators and Prince Harry has reemphasized this by saying that, “To stand back and do nothing, would be contrary to everything we believe in.”
