Prop Gun Used by Alec Baldwin Kills Cinematographer on Film Sets of ‘Rust’

Hollywood actor Alec Baldwin is in the news for fatally firing a prop gun at a cinematographer and wounding a director on the sets of the film ‘Rust’ in New Mexico.

Haylna Hutchins, 42, who was working on the sets as the director of photography was transported to the hospital by helicopter. Unfortunately, she succumbed to her wounds and passed away.

Director Joel, 48, has been taken to the hospital by ambulance and is receiving emergency treatment.

The incident took place in Bonanza Creek Ranch near Santa Fe which is the home of numerous famed film shootings.

63-year-old Baldwin had earlier posted a photograph on Thursday where he’s dressed in a period costume with blood on it. This was before the fatal incident took place.

The International Cinematographer’s Guild said, “The details are unclear at this moment, but we are working to learn more, and we support a full investigation into this tragic event.”

“This is a terrible loss, and we mourn the passing of a member of our guild’s family”, it further added.

Adam Egypt Mortimer director of ‘Archenemy’ in which Haylna worked as the director of photography, expressed that he was “sad” about Halyna’s death and was “infuriated” that such an incident could happen on a set.

Alec Baldwin is the co-producer of ‘Rust’ and is playing the character of an outlaw whose 13-year-old grandson has been convicted of accidental murder.

Incidents have occurred in the past wherein actors have lost their lives in a similar manner on film sets.

On March 31, 1993, Brandon Lee, son of Bruce Lee, died while shooting a death scene for the film ‘The Crow.’ The gun was supposed to fire a blank round without a solid bullet. However, previous shots fired caused a cartridge to get stuck in the barrel. During the fatal scene when the blank round was fired, the cartridge lodged in the barrel got dislodged and propelled into Brandon Lee’s abdomen resulting in his untimely death.

The police are investigating the current case in New Mexico and have not filed any charges yet.
