Rahul Gandhi Makes an Impactful Exit as Party President through a Public Letter

The President of the Indian National Congress Rahul Gandhi has made a pretty tough decision of stepping down from his current post in the party. The Congress President has decided to quit but not before expressing his personal views on the current political situation in a forthright and frank letter. On Wednesday, in a public letter, the leader said it loud and clear that he will be giving his resignation. A brave decision indeed!

The leader admitted and took personal responsibility for the party’s poor performance in the 2019 elections. The decision of resigning was made right after Congress’ defeat in the elections however this time the decision was made final through a letter. Speaking highly of her brother, Priyanka said, “Few have the courage that you do @rahulgandhi. Deepest respect for your decision.”

In the letter, Gandhi explained that tough decisions need to be made for a positive change in the party although it would be unfair to hold others accountable and ignore his own responsibility as the party’s President.

Rahul Gandhi revealed that many members of the party requested him to choose the next party president however he displayed humility when he declined to make that decision. He said, “While it is important for someone new to lead our party, it would not be correct for me to select that person.”

He explained that he has nothing against the opposition party however he stated, “every living cell in my body instinctively resists their idea of India.” His “idea of India” is in direct conflict with their idea of India and there lies the problem.

Another crucial point that was elaborated in his letter was that this year the elections were not fought on fairgrounds. The Congress party not only fought the opposition but the entire machinery and every institution that has been captured. Rahul believes that an election can only be fair when there is neutrality in the functioning of the country’s institutions like the press, the judiciary system and the election commission. Now that these institutions have been completely overtaken, there is a real threat to India.

The onus to resuscitate these institutions, however, lies with the Congress party and he will always remain with Congress for any services, input or advice. The fight will be based on a “deeper ideological battle” and not based on power.

It is left to be seen whether the Congress Party will be successful in carrying out the actions that have been pointed out in the letter. Rahul Gandhi for his part was successful in making a smooth and an impactful exit from his current position and he did it with grace and dignity. The Congress leader has promised that he will still work for the party’s ideologies when he says, “I am a loyal soldier of the Congress party and a devoted son of India and will continue to serve and protect her till my last breath.”
