Ranabaali: Vijay Deverakonda Steps into A Fiery 19th-Century Epic

Mumbai witnessed a major cinematic announcement this Republic Day as the makers of Vijay Deverakonda’s much-anticipated project, previously known as VD 14, officially revealed its title, Ranabaali. Along with the title unveiling, the team also confirmed the film’s global theatrical release date: September 11, 2026, setting the stage for a grand historical spectacle.

Directed by Rahul Sankrityan, Ranabaali transports audiences to 19th-century India, drawing inspiration from real events that unfolded between 1854 and 1878. The film promises a gritty portrayal of a turbulent era shaped by colonial dominance, social upheaval, and resistance. Vijay Deverakonda headlines the film alongside Rashmika Mandanna, marking yet another reunion of the popular on-screen pair.

To accompany the announcement, the makers released a gripping visual glimpse that immerses viewers into the grim realities of British imperial rule. The preview paints a stark picture of administrative cruelty, scorched lands, famine-stricken regions, and communities pushed to despair by exploitative policies. Through evocative imagery and stirring narration, the glimpse hints at the rise of a formidable figure from a land burdened by suffering, described as “cursed,” yet defiant.

Vijay Deverakonda appears in a formidable and authoritative incarnation as Ranabaali, unveiling a rugged new look that underscores the character’s intensity and resolve. Rashmika Mandanna portrays Jayamma, a role said to carry emotional depth and narrative significance. Adding an international dimension to the cast, Arnold Vosloo essays the role of the antagonist, Sir Theodore Hector, a British official whose presence amplifies the film’s conflict and gravitas.

Ranabaali marks Vijay Deverakonda’s third collaboration with Mythri Movie Makers, led by producers Naveen Yerneni and Y. Ravi Shankar, following Dear Comrade and Khushi. The film also reunites Vijay with director Rahul Sankrityan after their earlier success with Taxiwaala, rekindling a creative partnership that audiences have previously embraced.

For fans, the project is particularly exciting as it brings Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna together once more after the widely loved Geetha Govindam and Dear Comrade. Their on-screen chemistry has consistently resonated with viewers, and Ranabaali is expected to showcase a more intense and dramatic dimension of their pairing.

Presented by T-Series, the film’s soundtrack is being crafted by the celebrated composer duo Ajay-Atul, whose music is expected to elevate the film’s emotional and historical canvas. With its ambitious scale, historical grounding, and powerhouse cast, Ranabaali is shaping up to be a landmark addition to Indian cinema’s period dramas.
