Remembering Shefali Jariwala: A Journey of Fame, Fitness, and Farewell
Actor-model Shefali Jariwala, known for Kaanta Laga, passed away at 42 due to suspected cardiac arrest. Her legacy spans pop culture, wellness advocacy, and a vibrant presence in Indian television.
New Delhi: The entertainment industry mourns the sudden and tragic loss of actor and model Shefali Jariwala, who passed away late Friday night in Mumbai at the age of 42. While preliminary post-mortem reports remain inconclusive, initial findings hint at cardiac arrest as the cause of death. As the investigation deepens, authorities discovered anti-ageing medications at her home, and her friend Pooja Ghai confirmed that Shefali had taken a Victim C intravenous drip on the day of her demise.
Shefali was always candid about her health choices. In an earlier interview with Paras Chhabra, she elaborated on her beliefs regarding fitness, beauty treatments, and ageing. “I am blessed with good genetics, and I also look after myself. Working out is very important. I have been doing that for 20 years, and that is paying off now. I do yoga because of epilepsy. I don't have any bad habits, I don't eat fried food, and I don't drink alcohol. If yoga and workout are done together and correctly, it has lots of benefits,” she shared.
Her skincare regime, too, reflected her bold and unapologetic outlook. “I, of course, go to a skin doctor, I am pro-botox and skin treatments. Everybody wants to look good, so what's wrong with it? People who can't afford or are scared think it's wrong. It's expensive and painful. I have taken care of myself from before, so I have not needed anything. People should do what they like. We are born in this life as whatever we are. Next life, what if you are born as a cockroach or rat? Do what you like, be responsible about it, though. Doctors are like sculptures; they are artistic, so choose the correct artist.”
Shefali also opened up about her relationship with actor-husband Parag Tyagi. "Parag and I met at a common friend's party. He was very flattered to see me… My friend played cupid, we met for coffee, then dates, and eventually fell in love and went ahead with a live-in. We took permission from our parents… Had I not lived with him, we would have broken up," she had revealed.
Her funeral was held at Oshiwara Crematorium on June 28, where her father, brother, and Parag performed the final rites. The atmosphere was melancholic as her husband broke down during the rituals.
Family, close companions, and TV fraternity members, such as Arti Singh, Mahira Sharma, Rashami Desai, and singer Sunidhi Chauhan, gathered to pay homage. Paras Chhabra, Hindustani Bhau, Shehnaaz Gill, and Vikas Gupta were also present.
Shefali’s breakthrough came in 2002 with the chart-topping music video Kaanta Laga. She later acted in Mujhse Shaadi Karogi and participated in Nach Baliye and Bigg Boss 13, leaving an indelible mark on Indian pop culture.
