Rhea Chakraborty Shifted to Byculla Jail in Mumbai

A day after Rhea Chakraborty was arrested by the Narcotic’s control authority for procuring drugs for Sushant; the actress has now been shifted to Mumbai’s Byculla jail. She will be there till September 22. 

Her bail plea was rejected last night. She had spent the night at the Narcotics Control Bureau office.

Rhea Chakraborty’s brother Showik Chakraborty’s judicial custody has also been extended. 

The Narcotics Control Bureau said in its documents that Rhea was part of the “drug syndicate connected with drug supplies.” The finances to manage the drug procurement was also handled by Rhea said the agency.

Rhea in her defence had earlier stated that she got the drugs for Sushant. She never consumed the drugs.  Samuel Miranda and Dipesh Sawant also told authorities that they procured the drugs for Sushant Singh Rajput’s consumption. 

The Byculla jail is the only jail for women inmates in Mumbai. It houses personalities like Indrani Mukherjee who was involved in the Sheena Bora murder case and activist Sudha Bhardwaj who was arrested in the Koregaon- Bhima case. 

The black T-shirt worn by Rhea to the NCB office with the ‘smash the patriarchy’ message has gained momentum and is trending on twitter. The message read, “Roses are red, violets are blue, let's smash the patriarchy, me and you.” 

Meanwhile, a lot of Bollywood personalities are beginning to come forward and support Rhea on social media platforms. 

Kareena Kapoor Khan, Sonam Kapoor, Vidya Balan, Anurag Kashyap, Shabana Azmi, Farhan Akhtar, Zoya Akhtar and Amitabh’s daughter Shweta Bachchan Nanda are some of the big names who have shared her message as a sign of support to the actress.  

If Ms. Chakraborty is found to be guilty, she could face imprisonment for up to 10 years however in the official court documents it has nowhere been mentioned that she consumed drugs. Rhea’s team will approach the session court today for bail.
