India’s World Cup-winning celebration, Richa Ghosh has embarked on a remarkable new journey by formally joining the West Bengal Police as a Deputy Superintendent. India Women’s historic first-ever World Cup title last month, has now been designated as an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) under the Siliguri Commissionerate, as confirmed by the state police’s official X handle.

“Welcome, Richa, to the West Bengal Police family. Heartiest congratulations and best wishes,” the post read.

Richa’s Induction into the force comes after the West Bengal government had earlier announced her DSP appointment in recognition of the instrumental contributions during India’s triumphant World Cup campaign. Her performances, both with the gloves and the bat, proved indispensable. Whether it was her sharp wicketkeeping or her ferocious power-hitting in pressure-filled moments, Richa consistently rose to the occasion.

She was recently honoured by the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) for her indispensable role in India’s historic achievement. The felicitation ceremony, held at the iconic Eden Gardens, was graced by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, CAB President Sourav Ganguly, and Indian pace legend Jhulan Goswami. Richa was presented with a golden bat and a prize purse of ₹34 lakh as a token of appreciation.

Her batting exploits in the marquee tournament were equally noteworthy. Richa amassed 235 runs in eight innings, maintaining an impressive average of 39.16 and a blistering strike rate exceeding 133. She also matched West Indies powerhouse Deandra Dottin for the most sixes, 12, in a single edition of the Women’s World Cup, showcasing her fearless stroke-play.

Richa Ghosh’s transition from a world-class athlete to a police officer reflects her multidimensional persona, disciplined, determined, and deeply committed to representing her state and country in every possible way.
