Roads Shut, Electricity Disrupted after Heavy Rain in Himachal

Heavy rain lashed Himachal Pradesh and districts such as Lahaul, Spiti, and Mandi. This has also led to a standstill in the lives and is leading to immense pressure on the livelihood. It has been more than 3 days since rainfall and snowfall have not stopped in the district creating massive challenges for the people living in the vicinity.

Authorities have informed that 3 feet of snow sheets have formed which can bring the risk of avalanches. Heavy rainfall has affected Kullu District which led to the washing away of many cars. Debris has been accumulated near Gandhinagar which is the result of the overflowing of the Bhoothnath Nala. IMD has also issued an orange alert for the state as it may experience moderate to extreme rainfall.

Late evening of Sunday witnessed an Avalance in the Tindi Panchayat, situated near Lahual Valley. Heavy snowstorm followed post the Avalance. People in the village are anxious as Avalanche can harm their livelihood and can claim lives as well. However, no reports of lost lives have been reported yet.

Because of the continuous rainfall and snow, the district administration has ordered the closure of the schools and colleges in the Lahaul and Spiti districts followed by a heavy storm. The notification comes as a part of the safety and security of the residents. Heavy snowfall has further hindered the usage of freshwater as everything is frozen. Moreover, electric transformers have also been declared inoperative.

Lahaul Valley has seen the heavy snowfall in a long time making people stay indoors. Moreover, the IMD has also warned about heavy avalanches which can further make the way challenging for people. A landslide has also led to catastrophic experiences for passengers on the road as a bus fell into the gorge. This has also led to the blockage of the Chandigarh-Manali Highway.

Heavy Machinery has been installed which is being used to clear the debris that is blocking the road and is causing immense issues for the travelers and the passengers. Mandi district police have urged people through a social media advisory about the risk of visiting the place now. They also confirmed the effectiveness of clearing the debris out of the road.

As the roads are being improved, small vehicles have started their movement however, the traffic remains the same at both ends. Because of the rainfall, there is immense pressure as landslides are further challenging the road closures.
