Russian Military Takes over Ukraine’s Nuclear Facility

Due to shelling by Russian forces on the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant, a fire broke out in a building. It is the biggest nuclear plant in Europe. The fire however has been extinguished and the site is said to be safe according to officials.

Fear of a nuclear disaster had created panic not only in Ukraine but also capitals around the world. The fire authorities however extinguished the fire in the building that was a training center.

Ukraine Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba claimed that the Russian army is firing from all sides upon Zaporizhzhia NPP.

Mr Kuleba took to Twitter and expressed that if this power plant blows up “it will be 10 times larger than Chernobyl.”

“Russian army is firing from all sides upon Zaporizhzhia NPP, the largest nuclear power plant in Europe. Fire has already broken out. If it blows up, it will be 10 times larger than Chornobyl! Russians must IMMEDIATELY cease the fire, allow firefighters, establish a security zone,” Kuleba tweeted.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said on Friday that essential equipment in the power plant hasn’t been affected and there were no change in the radiation levels.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Moscow of “nuclear terror” tactics and wanting to repeat the Chernobyl incident.

In a video message President Zelensky said, “People of Ukraine! We survived the night that could have stopped the course of history- history of Ukraine, history of Europe.”

“No country other than Russia has ever fired on nuclear power units.”

He added that it was the first time in history and in the history of mankind.
