Saiyaara's Viral Wave Rooted in Raw Emotion, Not Paid Hype

Yash Raj Films clarifies that viral emotional reels following Saiyaara's release were purely organic. The film's impact, driven by real audience sentiment, was unplanned yet profoundly touching.

Saiyaara's Viral Wave Rooted in Raw Emotion, Not Paid Hype

The virality surrounding Saiyaara is not the result of calculated marketing, asserts Yash Raj Films CEO Akshaye Widhani and director Mohit Suri. Contrary to speculation, the deeply emotional reels circulating on social media were not part of a contrived promotional manoeuvre. “All those reels are organic,” Widhani confirmed in a conversation with NDTV.

He elaborated, “We saw those reels of people crying, and we kept sharing them. And people thought that we were getting it done, but it’s all organic,” highlighting how the intense audience reactions became emblematic of Saiyaara’s resounding theatrical success.

Featuring debutant actors Ahaan Pandey and Aneet Padda, the film has resonated powerfully with viewers across India. Widhani disclosed that the earliest responses surfaced from rather unanticipated locales. “It was amazing to see that when the reactions started pouring in, we started seeing some of these reels from smaller cities, from different centers, and none of this was designed. These were actual audience reactions,” he said, indicating a spontaneous groundswell of emotional connectivity.

Director Mohit Suri succinctly added, “You can’t script these,” emphasizing the authenticity and unscripted nature of the public response.

Akshaye further noted, “It would be great if we had the idea before to do it. Honestly, it’s the audience that started for us. We saw the video of the guy watching the film with a saline stand.”

Responding with genuine concern, Suri Said, “I hope he is fine now.”

Widhani continued, “We want to thank him for making the effort and going to the cinema to watch Saiyaara and making it as conversational as he did.”

He also acknowledged the bold step of casting two novices in lead roles. “It was humbling and in fact when we started this film taking two newcomers, it was a risk, but we felt very comfortable knowing that Mohit is going to be helming it,” Widhani shared.

Although influencers later joined the cultural swell and helped magnify it, the studio remains adamant that the initial wave was catalyzed by bona fide audience sentiment rather than algorithmic manipulation or influencer orchestration.
