Several Were Injured after A Bus Fell in A Pit in Sikkim

After a series of landslides and unsafe roads and passage for tourists, the Government of Sikkim had closed the entry to Sikkim. There were many cases of landslides which had immense issues for the tourists. Sikkim had opened on December 1st after a full clearance from the authorities. However, on the very first day of reopening, another incident followed.

A bus carrying passengers slipped and fell in the Teesta River. Around 5 passengers have been killed and many are injured. The incident happened in the Sikkim border near Rangpo. The bus was traveling to Gangtok from Siliguri and was stuffed with passengers.

The administration claimed that the toll of death might rise and the actual numbers cannot be disclosed now. The deceased have not been identified yet as the rescue operations are still in process. A team of disaster management reached the spot and started the emergency rescue. The onlookers claimed that the bus suddenly lost control in the middle of the road and the driver could not control the bus and fell in the river bank.

Police teams from Sikkim and West Bengal had reached the spot to assist the teams and report the incident in detail. DM of Kalimpong claimed “They have been shifted to a local hospital and they are undergoing treatment there. We have got information of some deaths also in the accident. Rescue operations are on.”

Shrijari Pandey, Superintendent of Police, Kalimpong claimed “Our immediate task is to concentrate on fast rescue operations. The injured ones are under treatment now. The investigation is on to find out how the accident happened.”
