Shah Rukh Khan turned heads at the Met Gala 2025, making a striking and historic debut as the first Bollywood male actor to walk its iconic red carpet. Draped in an opulent black trench coat by Sabyasachi, SRK delivered a bold interpretation of this year’s theme: “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.”
Inspired by Monica L. Miller’s seminal 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, the Met Gala theme explores the evolution of Black menswear from 18th-century Europe to its far-reaching influence on modern fashion. SRK, with his signature charm, interpreted the theme through a lens of global stardom and Indian craftsmanship.
His outfit featured a flowing black trench coat layered over a black crepe de Chine silk shirt, styled with a pleated black kamarbandh (waistband), blending classic tailoring with subtle Indian detailing. The ensemble was accessorized with chunky jewellery—an eclectic mix of layered chains, chokers, and diamond-studded pendants featuring the letters “SRK” and “K.” Multiple rings, a statement watch, and a tiger-topped cane added bold, theatrical flourishes. A diamond brooch on his coat completed the look with understated elegance.
Despite admitting he felt “pretty nervous on the carpet,” SRK carried himself with poise and charisma, leaving a lasting impression on the international stage.
Celebrated designer Sabyasachi, who styled the superstar, shared: “Shah Rukh Khan is one of the greatest superstars in the world. A cinematic hero, his blockbuster performances and leading-man charisma have created a legendary international fan following. My interpretation of the Black Dandy is demonstrating his superstardom on a global stage. Dressed in classic menswear with the maximalist flourish of Sabyasachi, Shah Rukh Khan is a magician, superstar, and icon. Period.”
