Shekhar Kapur Says That He is Dyslexic And Had No Interest in Maths

Indian director Shekhar Kapur has recently revealed that he is dyslexic and had struggled with Attention Deficit Disorder. He posted this information on Twitter. The director often keeps his followers entertained and amused with his interesting posts.

In the twitter post he expressed that life has taught him a lot and maths didn’t make any sense to him.

He posted, “Lessons of Life : I’m completely dyslexic. And finding more and more artists poets musicians suffer from dyslexia too. Are you? With #AI I’ve developed a love for visual mathematics, but in school developed a hatred for Maths…of course ! With #dyslexia numbers made little sense.”

This post has gone viral and has resonated with followers.

Here’s how netizens reacted to the post.

A user wrote, “Sir..what you lost with dyslexia, u gained with creativity! Who can EVER forget Phoolan Devi, Mr. India and now WLGTDWI?? You were, are and will ALWAYZZ b a TRUE legend!!

“Kudos for awareness and converting into Unfathomable creativity  with rare sensitivity!”

“I'm not dyslexic but Jamie is. But I have a developmental  language disability so it affects me in a lot of things. I'm not sure what all AI is but definitely had some support at school.”

Dyslexia is a learning disability. People with dyslexia may have difficulties in spelling words, writing words, pronouncing words when reading loud and other learning challenges. They may also have difficulties with numbers. People with dyslexia struggle with a higher degree of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

The director had first spoken about his attention deficit disorder in 2018. He was thankful that there were no special schools for him when he was growing up or he would have certainly not made movies.

His post read, “Lessons of Life: I am completely dyslexic and have intense ADD. I don't know what else! Thank God there were no special schools for kids like me when I was growing up. They would have beaten out all the rebellion in me. Certainly would not have made any films. Or been creative.”

Shekhar Kapur last directed English rom com film ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It”. The film featured Shabana Azmi, Emma Thompson, Lily James, Shazad Latif, Sajal Aly, Oliver Chris, Asim Chaudhry, Jeff Mirza, Alice Orr-Ewing and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan.

He is currently working on an Indian version of Harry Potter.
