Shocking Developments in The Sonali Phogat Murder Case; Accused Currently in Police Custody

There have been shocking developments concerning actor and politician-Sonali Phogat’s mysterious death.

On August 22 at around 10:30 pm Sonali was seen with her 39-year-old manager Sudhir Sangwan and 33-year-old associate in a popular beach shack and pub- ‘Curlies’ in Anjuna, Goa.

Sonali was spotted wearing black shorts and a red crop top.

Everything seemed normal until 1:25 am on August 23 when a drink was being poured into Phogat’s mouth on the dancefloor.

In a press conference on August 26, Goa’s inspector general of police Omvir Singh Bishnoi said, “ From the video, it is seen that one of the accused is forcefully making the deceased drink some substance. Sudhir Sangwan and Sukhwinder confessed that they had intentionally given the accused some obnoxious chemical after which the victim wasn’t herself and needed to be taken care of.”

Further police investigations reveal that the accused had given her methamphetamine, or MDMA, a popular synthetic party drug. An hour after she was given the drug, video footage showed that she was unstable and went staggering to the bathroom where she remained for less than two hours. She had been vomiting.

Sonali exited Curlies at 4:27 am still staggering while Sangwan was still holding onto her. They hired a taxi and left. The taxi driver informed the police that Sonali had passed out in the car.

Sonali was rushed to St. Antony’s hospital which is just 2 km away from the hotel when they were unable to revive her. The hospital just offers minimal emergency facilities. She was declared dead at the hospital.

The police have registered the case as murder while Sangwan and Sukhwinder Singh have been sent to 10- day police custody till September 5.

“At the moment we do not have any evidence whether this was a case of long running harassment. But behind every crime, there always is likely to be some economic interest, and I feel that in this crime too, there may be some economic interest,” IG Bishnoi expressed.
