Singer R Kelly Faces Serious Accusations in Disturbing Documentary ‘Surviving R. Kelly’

A shocking documentary on R&B’s most celebrated singer R Kelly has emerged which is titled ‘Surviving R.Kelly.’ The documentary reveals how the singer physically, emotionally and sexually abused several women including under-aged women over a span of several years.

The disturbing documentary depicts how the singer “built an ecosystem around his predation” and how he preyed upon vulnerable women. Some of the accusations against him in the documentary were grave and severe. One survivor Kitti Jones, for instance, said that he’s “numb to people’s feelings.”

Another backup singer Jovante Cunningham said that Kelly needs help and the documentary was made to help him rather than slander him. If given a chance Cunningham would tell him, “You need to see how you have ruined lives, how you have damaged relationships, how you have torn up other people’s families”. She explained that he needs to see the “effects of his behaviour” and only if he had explained what happened to him early on, maybe he wouldn’t have turned out to be the person he is today.

Celebrity Lady Gaga was always expected to comment on allegations against the rapper as she had collaborated with him in the 2013 song ‘Do What You Want.’ She had earlier defended her collaboration stating that there were untrue things written about both of them which formed a bond between them.

On January 10, Lady Gaga distanced herself from Kelly when she wrote these lines on social media, “I stand behind these women 1000%, believe them, know they are suffering and in pain, and feel strongly that their voices should be heard and taken seriously. As a victim of sexual assault myself, I made both the song and the video at a dark time in my life.”

"My intention was to create something extremely defiant and provocative because I was angry and still hadn't processed the trauma that had occurred in my own life. The song is called Do What U Want (With My Body), I think it's clear how explicitly twisted my thinking was at the time.” Meanwhile, Gaga fans even began a campaign to replace Kelly with Christina Aguilera in the ‘Do What You Want’ remix.

John Legend is one of the few celebrities who appeared in the controversial documentary. He said that the decision to take part was an “easy one”. Legend tweeted, "It didn't feel risky at all, I believe these women." Rappers Meek Mill, 6lack, actress Jada Pinkett Smith and Kerry Washington were among others who openly criticized Kelly.

So far Kelly and his lawyer have dismissed the accusations. The singer, however, has been facing various sexual allegations including sexual misconduct with minors since years. The ‘I Believe I Can Fly’ singer has earned nicknames like ‘King of R&B’ and ‘King of Pop Soul’ as he helped in redefining R&B and Hip Hop. Kelly is also recorded as the most successful R&B artist in history. The documentary will be broadcasted in the UK on Crime and Investigation UK on 5 February.
