Six Women Crew Heading to Space on April 14 Aboard New Shepard

Blue Origin’s New Shepard spacecraft launches its first all-female crew on April 14.

The crew consists of Katy Perry, former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, bioastronautics research scientist and civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen, journalist Gayle King, filmmaker Kerianne Flynn, and journalist and helicopter pilot Lauren Sánchez.

Before the final takeoff, the team will gather in Van Horn, Texas, for final training sessions.

The launch will take place from Launch Site One in West Texas at 7:00 PM IST on April 14.

The six-member crew will cross the Kármán line, the boundary between earth and space.

The NS-31 mission will last around 11 minutes, reaching a height of approximately 65 miles above earth.

At the peak altitude, the crew capsule will separate from the rocket, allowing the passengers to experience a few minutes of weightlessness.

After reaching the highest point, the crew capsule will begin its descent. Three parachutes will be deployed for a slow, gentle, and smooth landing.

This will be Blue Origin’s eleventh human flight. It is a great initiative by Jeff Bezos’ space technology company to promote inclusion and diversity, keeping in mind that all the women are from different backgrounds and ethnicities.

This mission marks the 11th human flight for Blue Origin's New Shepard program and the 31st flight since its founding.

It will be the first space mission with an all-women crew since Russian cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova's solo flight in 1963.

The mission serves as an inspiration for people to follow their dreams and aim for the stars.
