Sixth Case of Nipah Virus Confirmed in The State of Kerala

The Kerala government has sprung into action after the Nipah scare has overtaken the state. 

The state has already reported two deaths from the virus. Five more patients are undergoing treatment at the hospital. 

A 39-year-old man from Kozhikode has also contracted the virus, Kerala Health Minister Veena George confirmed on Friday.

Sixty-year-old woman with suspected Nipah symptoms from the neighbouring Malappuram district has been admitted to Manjeri Medical College. 

This is the fourth Nipah outbreak in Kerala since 2018.

The government has already introduced containment zones in nine panchayats. 

The government has decided to take fluid samples for examination of all those who are in the high risk contact list to the first Nipah victim. 

Meanwhile, a five member team of experts from the National Centre for Disease Control, RML Hospital and NIMHANS has been sent to Kerala to oversee the Nipah situation. 

The district administration has announced that educational institutions should remain closed till September 16. 

The World Health Organization studies have found that not just Kozhikode but the entire state of Kerala is prone to such infections.
