Sushmita Sen’s Upcoming Web Show ‘Taali’ Is Grabbing Everyone’s Attention

Sushmita Sen will be seen in a totally new avatar in the upcoming web show titled ‘Taali.’ The teaser shows that the actress has effortlessly fit into the character of transgender activist Shreegauri Sawant.

Shreegauri Sawant is a transgender activist from Mumbai who became the first transgender person to file a petition in the Supreme Court of India for adoption rights of transgender people.

The official teaser and the poster have already aroused curiosity among fans. The trailer is captivating and infused with thought provoking dialogues.

Taali is about the life of Ganesh who transforms into Gauri and the challenging and painful experiences she faces in the bargain.

Sushmita Sen has indeed taken a bold role and the audiences have applauded her for doing so.

Though she was happy to take up the role, she did not say “Yes” immediately.

“I met the makers, there were a number of back and forth. It was after meeting Gauri that I knew a lot of people can do this role but I would do it with the most amount of love,” the actor told indianexpress.com.”

Though the movie hasn’t been released, Sushmita's portrayal of Gauri is very impressive. The mannerisms, the tone of voice, the expressions and the body language ! She has done a fabulous job in emulating Gauri.

The actress said that she worked with Atul Mongia to get the body language correct. Even the stylist did her part in getting minute details accurate like the manner Gauri wore her watch.

What’s more interesting is that the actress personally worked with Gauri and there were other transgender actors to support her on certain scenes that required habitual mannerisms.

There were conversations about the portrayal of Gauri. A section of people felt that Shreegauri could have played her own part whereas others said it was only natural for another transgender to play the part.

Reacting to this Sushmita explained, “I think in a greater conversation they are not wrong. It is time all talented people are hired for the job irrespective of their gender or if the role demands it. But in this case, firstly Gauri chose me. I didn’t know about this show, had no idea. She made sure that the makers approached me with the offer. I will forever remain in her debt for it allowed me a bigger voice through her story.

“So that doesn’t trouble me because it just it’s not a general story but her story. She has every right to choose. As for me, as an actor and human being, every opportunity that I get to celebrate inclusiveness, I unapologetically embrace it with both hands. I won’t wait for gaali or taali because I believe this is the call I was born to do. I will use every platform to encourage inclusivity.”

Sushmita is probably one of the first actresses in the history of Indian cinema to play a transgender although her gender orientation is heterosexual and going by the teaser she has done a brilliant job. The official teaser is only a glimpse of her performance. To savour the entirety of her performance, be ready to watch ‘Taali’, this Independence day on Jio Cinema.
