Swara Bhasker Says That Despite Being a Competent Actor She Doesn’t Get Enough Work

Actress Swara Bhasker, known to be vocal about various issues concerning the country, in a recent interview said that despite having a good track record of great films she’s not receiving work opportunities.

The actress was recently seen accompanying Rahul Gandhi in the Bharat Jodo Yatra. She walked alongside the head of the Congress party Rahul Gandhi in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. She took to Twitter and expressed her delight in joining the yatra.

In a recent interview with Times of India she expressed that being vocal about numerous topics has cost her career. This is the reason why Bollywood in particular is scared to be vocal. She’s a perfect example of why they remain silent, she expressed.

“The fallout is real, whether it’s professional cost, the cost to your peace of mind, the cost to your physical safety, the cost to just your sense of dignity and respect is immense. Yes, the silence is deafening.”

“I have chosen consciously to put at risk the thing that is most dear to me and that is my work. And the cost has been huge and it has been personal and emotional in the sense that I don’t get to do the thing that I love doing which is acting. I don’t get to do it enough.”

She also said, “I'm a far better actor and a far more competent, and effective actor than the opportunities that come my way. I have a far better track record in terms of my career. I've been part of six or seven blockbuster films and like a whole bunch of web series [and] shows, led them. I've never had bad reviews pretty much. There shouldn't be a reason for me to feel like I don't get enough work but clearly, I don't.”

Swara got recognition for her supporting role in Tanu Weds Manu for which she garnered a filmfare award for Best Supporting Actress nomination. She then appeared in Raanjhana along with Sonam Kapoor and Dhanush which was the highest grossing film of the year. She’s worked in major hit films and as she mentioned a “bunch of web series.”

She was last seen in ‘Jahan Chaar Yaar’; the story of which revolves around four women who decide to leave their middle class routine lives and live lives on their own terms in Goa. Their vacation leads to some unexpected life changing events.

Swara will next be seen in Mimamsa, a murder mystery. She also has a women-centric drama, Mrs Falani, coming soon.
