“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the loss of Tim Bergling, also known as Avicii. He was found dead in Muscat, Oman this Friday afternoon local time, April 20th,” the publicist said in a statement on Friday.
Cause of death
Though the DJ’s cause of death hasn’t been confirmed, there were reports that he had a drinking problem. Songwriter and record producer Nile Rodgers who collaborated with the DJ stated that he was upset with his drinking habits. Rodgers was upset that the DJ was drunk at one of his shows.
Rodgers, 65, told the Associated Press: ‘It was a little bit sad to me because he had promised me he would stop drinking, and when I saw him he was drunk that night. ‘And I was like, “Whoa. Dude. C’mon. What are you doing? What’s going on? You said that that was done”. Nonetheless, Rodgers admitted that Avicii’s drinking habits didn’t affect their friendship in any way.
Avicii, also known as Tim Bergling had suffered from health problems over the years. He suffered from acute pancreatitis due to his drinking problem. He also had his appendix and gallbladder removed in 2014. His health problems were the prime reason he gave up on live touring.
Avicii’s ex-girlfriend shares tribute
It is believed that Avicii was not dating anyone at the time of his death. However, the DJ’s ex-girlfriend who dated him from 2011 to 2013 shared a touching tribute to him.
“Come on babe, don’t give up on us. Choose me, and I’ll show you love.” Those are lyrics from a song Tim wrote for me. I wish I could have lived up to them. ‘For the two years we were together, he was my closest confidante, and my best friend. Now I can’t look at Bear [the dog they shared] without knowing I’ll never see his face again. ‘I’m still collecting my thoughts and thank you for all your kind words and texts. Wake me up when it’s all over, because I don’t want it to be real.’ Emily also shared a screenshot of texts from the DJ, reading: ‘Hi Kittyyyy’ and ‘I love you too Emilyyyy.’
Avicii was nominated twice for the Grammy awards. One for the song ‘Sunshine’ with David Guetta and the other for the famous song ‘Levels.’ Some of his most popular songs were ‘Wake me up’, ‘Hey Brother’, ‘Addicted to you’, ‘Waiting for love’ and numerous other popular hits. His music was undoubtedly captivating and resonated well with the young masses. The young DJ who was born in Stockholm, Sweden is survived by his parents, sister- Linda Sterner, his brothers Anton and David. The talented DJ had once said “Making music was what I feel I was born to do.” The DJ will forever live in our hearts through his music.
