Tamil Nadu Stopping The Screening of ‘The Kerala Story’ to Maintain Law And Order

Tamil Nadu theatre owners have decided not to screen the controversial film ‘The Kerala Story.’ This step was taken to “maintain law and order” and to protect properties from trouble by those who oppose the film. 

Theatre owners say that the screening affects other films in the multiplexes. 

The Tamil Nadu Theatre and Multiplex Owners Association said that they are not under any pressure from the DMK government. 

Associate Joint Secretary S Sridhar claimed that footfall had dwindled by Saturday as police were frisking people who visited the theatres where the film was being screened. 

“People visit theatres to get entertained, but there’s a question mark over whether they will put up with so much trouble to watch a movie. We replaced 'The Kerala Story’with Ponniyin Selvan 2’ and other new releases.

At present thirteen theatres are screening the film in the state. Tamil Nadu has not banned the film. 

The Madras High Court had earlier dismissed a plea seeking a ban on ‘The Kerala Story.’

The promo of the film claimed that 32,000 women from Kerala had joined ISIS however the numbers have now been changed to three young girls from different parts of Kerala. 

‘The Kerala Story’ directed by Sudipto Sen follows the journey of women from Kerala who converted to Islam and joined ISIS.
