Taylor Swift Reveals Whom She’ll Vote for in the Midterm Elections

Singer Taylor Swift is endorsing Tennessee Democrats Phil Bredesen and Jim Cooper, who are running for Senate and House of Representatives, respectively. She took to Instagram and revealed that she would not vote for the female candidate- Marsha Blackburn. She posted these lines on Instagram “As much as I have in the past and would like to continue voting for women in office, I cannot support Marsha Blackburn, her voting record in Congress appalls and terrifies me."

The reasons why Swift is choosing not to vote for Marsha is because Marsha has voted against equal pay for women, voted against the reauthorization of the violence against Women act which aims to protect women from domestic violence, stalking and date rape. Marsha is also in support of businesses that refuse services to gay couples and believes that they have no right to marry. Marsha’s policies do not align with Taylor Swift’s personal values and this is the major reason she’s decided not to vote for the American politician and businesswoman. Taylor Swift said that she cannot vote for someone who is not “willing to fight for dignity for ALL Americans.”

The ‘Delicate’ singer has emphasized that she has and will always vote for someone who would protect and fight for human rights. In the lengthy Instagram post, the actress clearly put across her personal values. She revealed that she believes in LGBTQ rights, she is against discrimination based on someone’s sexual orientation and racism which is still prevalent in the country. Keeping these values in mind, the singer would be voting for Phil Bredesen and Jim Cooper for the House of Representatives.

Taylor Swift Urges Youngsters to Vote

Taylor Swift urges all young voters to educate themselves on the running US Senate candidates and select a candidate whose values closely match with their own. She requested all the young fans on her account to register before the deadline. "So many intelligent, thoughtful, self-possessed people have turned 18 in the past two years and now have the right and privilege to make their vote count," she wrote. "Please, please educate yourself on the candidates running in your state and vote based on who most closely represents your values. For a lot of us, we may never find a candidate or party with whom we agree 100% on every issue, but we have to vote anyway”, she added.

President Donald Trump, however, was not satisfied with Swift’s decision for not voting for a Republican candidate. While walking on the White House’s South Lawn, he walked back at reporters after hearing Taylor Swift’s name. After he learned about Swift’s comments, Trump said, “I’m sure Taylor Swift has nothing -- or doesn't know anything about her (Blackburn).” Trump praised the Republican candidate and said that “she was doing a very good job in Tennesse” and then he goes on to say “Let's say that I like Taylor's music about 25% less now, OK?"
