The Academy Honours Deepika Padukone’s Dancing Clip from The Movie Bajirao Mastani

Deepika Padukone has added another jewel to her crown after the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences shared a video clip from the 2015 epic historical romance BajiRao Mastani. 

“Deepika Padukone performing ‘Deewani Mastani’ (sung by Shreya Ghoshal) from the movie ‘Bajirao Mastani,’ the Academy wrote.

She plays the beautiful Deewani Mastani, the warrior princess, in the epic drama! 

Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the movie also features Ranveer Singh (Bajirao) and Priyanka Chopra Jonas (Kashibai). The movie is based on Nagnath S Inamdar’s Marathi novel Rau. 

In the video clip you can witness Deepika, dressed in a complete ethnic golden ensemble with fine embroidery, gracefully dancing to the tune of Deewani Mastani. The melodious song was sung by the famous Shreya Ghoshal !

Ranveer also commented on the video clip and described the song as “Mesmeric.” Shreya Ghoshal posted a thank you message for  the Academy.

The voice of Shreya Ghoshal 🙌 Deewani Mastani can never get old. It’s a classic.

This is a masterpiece! The main lead of the film and main dancer of this song- @deepikapadukone is the top heroine of Bollywood. Just look at her sublime grace, expressions. It’s easier to do over the top loud acting- but this nuanced restrained expressions are much more difficult to perform. She did about 1000+ twirls for this song wearing a costume which was 20kg. 

Last year Deepika attended the Academy Awards and introduced the performance of the iconic song Naatu Naatu from the 2022 film RRR which went on to become the first Indian track to win the coveted Academy Award in this category thus creating history. 

While introducing the performance at the Oscars, Deepika said, “An irresistibly catchy chorus, electrifying beats and killer dance moves to match have made this next song a global sensation. It plays during a pivotal scene in RRR, a movie about the friendship between real-life Indian revolutionaries, Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bheem. In addition to being sung in Telugu and illustrating the film’s anti-colonialist themes, it’s also a total banger. It’s got millions of views on YouTube and Tiktok, has audiences dancing in movie theatres all around the world, and is also the first song ever from an Indian production to be nominated for an Oscar.”
