The all-female crew is making final preparations to undertake Blue Origin’s New Shepard mission NS-31 to space today.
The launch will take place from Launch Site One in West Texas.
Blue Origin has announced that the launch window will officially begin at 8:30 a.m. CDT / 13:30 UTC.
The mission marks Blue Origin’s eleventh human spaceflight and the first to feature an all-women crew.
The excited group has revealed their blue spaceflight suits on social media, which they will wear during the journey. The bodysuits were designed by none other than Lauren Sánchez.
The crew will cross the Kármán line, 100 kilometers above Earth, where they will experience weightlessness and have the opportunity to view the planet in its entirety through large windows.
The capsule will descend with the help of parachutes to ensure a smooth landing.
The women undertaking this extraordinary mission are singer Katy Perry, pilot and journalist Lauren Sánchez, journalist Gayle King, former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyễn, and film producer Kerianne Flynn.
The mission aims to inspire future generations by highlighting women’s representation in space travel. It also promotes diversity and encourages young people to pursue careers in space exploration.
