The First Lady of Hell and Her Lavish lifestyle

As the saying goes, “when Rome was burning, the king of Rome, Nero was playing a flute”, similar situation one can witness in case of Syria, but here not the king but the queen, who is more engrossed in maintaining her luxurious lifestyle.

Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad’s British-born wife Asma al-Assad who is also known as “The First Lady of Hell” enjoys a lavish lifestyle while her husband continues to drop bombs on its own civilians and while children are dying on the streets of Syria.

Asma al-Assad also own a luxurious palace in Damascus which is estimated to be worth of $1 billion, which is close to Eastern Ghouta where mostly the innocent people are being massacred by the government forces.

Also known as Princess Diana of Syria, Asma al-Assad is now the most talked about figure in her own country because of her lifestyle. In the year 2012, WikiLeaks also published some private emails, which disclosed her details of spending; she splashed out $350,000 on 130 pieces of furniture when the civil war in her country is on killing the innocent people mostly the children.

She wears a pair of shoes worth $7,000 with crystal-encrusted heels. The Presidential residence where though she lived very rarely is thought to had been built at the cost about $1 billion in 1979. One single room was fitted with 125,000 marble tiles costing a total of $10.6 million. Though it has been barely used since its location on the top of a hill makes it an easy target for missiles.

The Instagram account of Asma boasts over 100,000 followers and shows the first lady meeting and greeting people in fortified Damascus in an attempt to continue her PR, which is futile amidst the bloodshed. Still, the regime is determined to continue to try and paint Asma as the “rose in the desert” despite her husband carrying out attacks on his own people since the civil war started in 2011.

In an interview recently, she said, she felt pain and sadness, when she met the injured and the widowed because of the conflict in her country and try to offer them help. She said, “Could you ignore them? In Syria, we believe in honouring our word. That is what is important”. She also lambasted Media for only criticizing her family rather than focusing on the charity, the Assad’s do.

Asma al-Assad who is born Asma Akhras in 1975 in Acton, West London, but both her parents Sunni Muslims from Homs, the Syrian city which is targeted by the US, UK and France today.

After graduating in computer science and French literature from Queen’s College London, Asma started working as a banker at Deutsche Bank Group. She first met Bashar Al Assad when he was undertaking training as an ophthalmologist in London and they re connected again in the year 2000, and married him in the same year. At the time of Marriage Assad was 35 years old and she was 10 years younger to him. Now they have three children.
