The Reasons That Could Have Motivated Nasim Aghdam, to Shoot People in YouTube

The shootout at Youtube has shaken and disturbed people, especially YouTube professionals. What were the reasons behind the shootout? Why would someone go to that extent, is the question running in everyone’s mind. The woman who shot 3 people and killed herself has been identified as Nasim Aghdam. Some reports say that a dispute with her boyfriend could have caused her to take such a drastic step. However, there are many posts by her on the social media that reflect her state of mind. She seemed to be angry and upset with YouTube for censoring her videos. She believed it was done because of her beliefs.

Nasim Aghdam, the woman who has created panic felt discriminated because YouTube had placed age restrictions on her videos and thus her content received lesser views. Aghdam was an avid YouTube user and would post clips related to workouts, animal abuse and vegan recipes.  She had contacted YouTube to find out the reasons behind the censorship. She claims the YouTube support team told her videos had inappropriate content.

The disgruntled YouTube user who lived in Southern California had posted videos of Nicki Minaj and Miley Cyrus and questioned YouTube why their content was not censored. She felt their videos were not strictly monitored. In some of her videos she had worn traditional muslim clothing and hence she felt the social platform was discriminating based on her religion.

In a video posted in January 2017, she says her channel was very popular and received lots of views but after YouTube filtered her material, it received less views. This seemed to disturb and worry her.

In a Facebook post in February 2017, she spoke against YouTube. She vented her anger on YouTube saying, YouTube does not give equal growth opportunities.

When contacted, her father, Ismail Aghdam told Nasim was very angry because she was not being paid for the videos she was posting on YouTube. In a telephonic interview from San Diego, the shooter’s father claimed his daughter, Nasim had informed her parents a number of times that she was angry with YouTube for stopping everything.

Ismail told, the family tried contacting her for the past two days but she did not answer her phone. The family called the police to report about their missing daughter on Monday. The police found her sleeping in her car in a parking lot. The police even asked her a few questions and after the conversation her family was notified about her.  Ismail had informed the police during the conversation she may go to YouTube.

Ismail Aghdam also mentioned his daughter was an animal activist and also a vegan. She had also founded a called Peace Thunder to create awareness about animal cruelty and other causes like environmental pollution. At a PETA protest in 2009 Nasim had told, “For me, animal rights equal human rights.”  Her father also recalled Nasim in her younger days never even killed ants instead she would use paper to remove them from the house.

How could an animal lover turn the gun on innocent people is something to ponder upon.
