The teaser of Alia Bhatt’s new film ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ is out and it has received a big thumbs up from viewers and her colleagues alike.

The teaser is trending high on social media.

Seen clad in a white saree and wearing a large red bindi on her forehead, Alia’s new avatar is very bold.

It appears that Gangubai is here to settle some big scores!  It’s a character that audiences have never seen Alia portray before.

The film’s story revolves around the life of a simple girl from Kathiawad who transforms herself into one of the most dreaded mafia queens of Mumbai in the 60s.

It is a true story based on one of the women named Gangubai Kothewali featured in the book ‘Mafia Queens of Mumbai’ written by S Hussain Zaidi along with Jane Borges.

Born as Ganga Harjivandas, she was raised in a prestigious family in Kathiawad, Gujarat.  Her ambition was to be an actress albeit things took a drastic turn when she fell in love with her father’s accountant and ran away.

As per reports they got married and relocated to Mumbai. It was here that she was sold by her husband for a mere Rs.500.

The tough life that she had to endure thereon transformed her into a tough personality. Though she garnered a dreaded image, she never forced any girl into the business of flesh trade. She worked and fought to improve the conditions of the victimized women and children.

Colleagues like Shahrukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Akshay Kumar, boyfriend Ranbir Kapoor and even Neetu Singh are thoroughly impressed and cheered Alia after catching a glimpse of her performance in the all new teaser.

Going by Alia’s impeccable performances and versatility in films like ‘Kalank’, ‘Raazi’ and ‘Gully Boy’, there are high chances that she would do justice to the role of ‘the Matriarch of Kamathipura’ as well.

‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ has been produced and directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and is scheduled to hit screens on 30 July.
