The Unemployment Rate Remains The Same in June 2024
India witnesses a dip in the employment rate for both men and women. Rural witnessed a soar in employment rates as it is reduced by more than 50 percent.
Joblessness in India is one of the major concerns as this is a part of economic development and citizens of India need help finding a job in the market. According to data from PLFS the unemployment rate remained at 3.49 percent in 2024. The data is the same when evaluated in the year 2023. Meanwhile, joblessness among women increased quite a bit. The PLFS report shows that women's employment rose by close to 4.7 percent.
The youth employment rate increased by 10 percent, especially for the ones that belong to 15 to 29 years old, while for the females, 1.4 percent. Employment rates dipped during the COVID-19 pandemic as businesses were facing immense issues in managing operational costs. Hence, it has become one of the challenging aspects for the Government to create so many jobs within a short period.
In the Rural population, joblessness has decreased from 5.3 percent to 2.5 percent. This margin is evident because of the rise in the primary sector and the additional boost given by the Indian Government.
Working population rates soared by more than 2.2 percent. For males, the percentage of male workers increased to 76.3 percent from 76 percent. While the female working population witnessed an increase of almost 5 percent. The PLFS was designed to ensure that unemployment rates are being reduced and more jobs are being created.
