Three Siblings Found Confined in Home for Ten Years in Rajkot, Gujarat

In a shocking case that has emerged from the state of Gujarat, an NGO found three siblings confined for years in a home.

The two brothers and one sister were discovered by an NGO called ‘Saathi Seva Group’ when they were tipped off about their condition.

The members of the NGO broke open the home only to find the siblings in a room messed up with human faeces, stale food and newspapers all around. The house is situated in Rakjkot’s posh Kishanpara area.

They were found sleeping on the floor and were discovered in a malnourished state with long beards and matted hair. There was no entry of sunlight in their rooms.

The siblings - Amrish Mehta (42), Meghna Mehta (39) and Bhavesh Mehta (30) are highly educated. The eldest son Amrish was a practicing lawyer with a BA, LLB degree, the daughter Meghna had completed MA in Psychology and the youngest son Bhavesh has a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and was good in cricket.

The father of the siblings Naveenbhai Mehta said that they stopped going out after their mother fell ill in 1986. They completely disconnected from their outside surroundings once their mother passed away. He also believes that some relatives performed black magic on them. The father claimed that he left food for them to eat.

With the help of their father, the siblings were brought out of the room and have been cleaned, shaved, and were provided with new clothes.

No police complaints have been lodged so far in this mysterious case. The case has raised several questions such as: How three well-educated individuals could be confined to a room for a decade? Why were the local authorities not informed about their disturbed state by their family or friends? Were the siblings suffering from a mental illness as claimed by the father?
