Three US Citizen’s Freed by North Korea, Trump Welcomes the Move

US President Donald Trump personally went to receive three American detainees after they were released from North Korea. The US Citizen where released at a time when the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is on an official visit to North Korea to discuss the summit of US President Donald Trump and North Korean Leader Kim Jong-un.

Kim Dong Chul, Kim Hak Song, and Kim Sang Duk, the three US Citizens were received by US President Trump and his wife Melania Trump. As the family members were not allowed to receive them because of protocol reasons. As per protocol, they will first brief the intelligence officials after reaching the US and after medical evaluation, they were allowed to go to their respective homes.

Speaking to Media at Joint Base Andrews Air Force Base, Kim Dong Chul said, “It is like a dream to be back home, we are very happy”. While US President Donald Trump said media that it was a "nice" gesture from the North Korean leader ahead of their summit. He said, “Frankly we didn't think this was going to happen, it's a very important thing to all of us to be able to get these three great people out”. 

After welcoming the US Citizens back home, US President Trump also said, “I really think he wants to do something and bring his country into the real world, I think this will be a very big success. It's never been taken this far, there's never been a relationship like this”. After meeting with the President, the three US Citizens were sent to a Medical Center in Maryland, where the health check-up will be done and if needed medical treatment will be provided to the three before they go home.


Meanwhile, the former detainees also issued a joint statement, thanking US government and President Trump for taking initiative for their release. In a joint statement, they said, “We would like to express our deep appreciation to the United States government, President Trump, Secretary Pompeo, and the people of the United States for bringing us home”.


Japan and South Korea also welcomed the move by North Korea. Both the countries are also waiting for the release of their citizens, detained in North Korea. Welcoming the move South Korean Government issued a statement also reminding North Korea to release its citizens too. In the statement, the government spokesperson Yoon Young-chan requested Kim Jong-un to release six of its citizen detained in North Korea.


In his last meeting with US President Donald Trump, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe also has raised the issue of its citizens mainly its scientists detained by North Korea. According to the Japanese government, there are more 12 Japanese, still in detention in North Korea.


According to some sources in the government, the summit between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un is going to take place in Singapore as officials were instructed to move forward with the plans of the summit in Singapore, though there is no any official confirmation from the US government. President Trump though hinted that he would announce the location and time of the summit with three days.
